WHO definition: “Physiotherapists assess, plan and implement rehabilitative programs that improve or restore human motor functions, maximize movement ability, relieve pain syndromes, and treat or prevent physical challenges associated with injuries, diseases, and other impairments. They apply a broad range of physical therapies and techniques such as movement, ultrasound, heating, laser, and other techniques. They may develop and implement programs for screening and prevention of common physical ailments and disorders”

Physiotherapy is poorly understood in different developing countries. It is apparent that it lacks the recognition and resources to be utilized effectively. Bangladesh is moving toward universal health coverage and needs health workforce planning which includes increased accessibility and provision of high-quality care. Bangladesh Government regulatory authority must protect the title of physiotherapist according to international standards, a commitment from the Government to the provision of physiotherapist posts in proportion to the expansion of a universal health-care mandate and reduction of the financial burden associated with illness.)
